LCD Systems offers three methods of lighting your LCD display--E/L backlighting, LED array backlighting, and LED edge lit backlighting.
Electro luminescent backlights are high voltage, low current and operate at 115V, 60-400Hz. Benefits are even light and low current drain. E/L backlighting requires an inverter. E/L backlights reach 1/2 brilliance at 3,000 to 12,000 hours depending on color, operating voltage, and drive frequency.
LED array backlights operate at low voltage and have a higher current drain than E/L backlights . Their primary benefit is their high life expectancy of 100,000 hours or more.
Edge lit LED backlights are similar to the LED array backlights, except fewer LEDs are used, and they are placed on the edge of a light pipe. Edge lit LED backlights are thinner and normally require less current, making them ideal for battery powered applications.
